Icebreaker: Get to know Me
I’m winging this first post… something I learned I’m actually pretty decent after years of trying to curate and perfect my life into a perfect little square.
Welcome.
I’m Tiff!
I was born and raised in the most amazing city in the world (NYC!!) to two immigrant parents, who gifted me with grit, hard work and attitude.
I’m also a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, a woman who’s really into lifting weights and also really bad at remembering the rules of card games and music lyrics (!!!).
Introductions feel harder as an adult.
Name. Career. Favorite Hobby.
Tiffany. Registered Dietitian. Eating…?
As kids, our introductions simply involved just our names, followed by with a golden ticket to playing blocks, trading stickers, or pokemon.
As adults, we break the ice by stating our lifes’ passions right away, as if our career would single-handedly define who we are as creatures of this universe.
I guess this is where I’m really trying to get at with this first post.
You hear ‘Registered Dietitian’, and you may have already drawn a conclusion of who I am, or worse… a conclusion of who YOU are.
Let me explain.
A Registered Dietitian is somebody who improves the lives of others and the public with their nutrition expertise.
In the 95% of instances I have introduced myself, followed by with what I do for a living, most people tend to react with the following:
“Oh… you’d hate me then!”,
Or, a, “You do not want to know what I had for dinner last night!”.
…. As if your food choices have a direct impact on whether or not there was potential for a friendship to blossom between us!
…. As if your food choices gave me ANY insight to who YOU are as a person!
Either way, yeah, Karen, I definitely do not want to know what you had for dinner.
You can spare me those details.
Please tell me what you had for dessert instead.
I guess what I’m trying to say, is, that as a Registered Dietitian, a person often accredited to be a person of HELF, SPINACH and FITNESS, I’m more than just these things, and the least interesting about you, is what you eat.
This is my nutrition philosophy, and if you get what I’m putting down, then you’ll want to stick around.
